So Long to Ya 2010

I would like to thank the folks of JibJab.com for doing the political bit of this entry for me.

the most expensive item for Christmas I got that wasn't money was the Sunday Night Football CookBook, lotta tasty recipes in there, I wont be able to share any of it with ya as I'm sure John Madden wouldn't like me giving out his signature seafood dish.

I can run Gimp on this old mac so I may be making my own graphics. My good Friend Kamden is baptising me into Magic: The Gathering and we are even in talks of possibly doing a collaborative podcast.

As a new year draws upon us, we look at what is to come:

  • do or die moments for the Obama/Biden administration
  • The possibility of no 2011 NFL season
  • A MLB that is still stuck in the past by it's own will
  • The possibility of a second Korean War
  • The Academy Awards
  • Loss of virginity
  • Food
And so it is so long
farewell
auf Wiedersehen
and goodby

See ya in 2011!

The Password Is: WTF?

Rex Ryan gets smeared, bipartisanship in the US senate, the states are getting a wet xmas over a white xmas, and North Korea is threatening nuclear warfare in the name of God...

The Rex Ryan matter will not be commented on in length, you wanna get nitty gritty with it? then look else where.

Picks NOW and the winners are in bold:

Carolina @ Pittsburgh
Dallas @ Arizona
Washington @ Jacksonville
Detroit @ Miami
San Francisco @ St. Louis
Tennessee @ Kansas
NY Jets @ Chicago
New England @ Buffalo
Baltimore @ Cleveland
Houston @ Denver
San Diego @ Cincinnati
Indianapolis @ Oakland
NY Giants @ Green Bay
Seattle @ Tampa Bay
Minnesota @ Philadelphia
New Orleans @ Atlanta

with the lame duck session FINALY OVER we got DADT out the door and out of our law,
immigrants will still need to do there living here the old fashioned way with DREAMS death,
the States and the Russians can feel safe from missing nukes a while long,
some of healthcare is coming into play,
we are stuck with the bush taxes a while longer,
unemployment insurance stays a while longer. all that and it was still a nightmare,

wonder what the next congress will look like...

Climate change is rearing its ugly head, its raining in utah rather than snowing, so the slopes this new years might be slushy up there, some of my furry friends are planning to go up to the slopes for some skiing and snowboarding, I'd go but my right knee is being belligerent and i already have plans somewhat in place with Kamden. (his blog here: http://humanepredator.blogspot.com/ )

at this point i would bitch and moan about North Korea about being the instigators in the cold war with there neighbor South Korea, but im too tired to do that as of this post, if they do anything stupid I'll talk about it when im not feeling like im gonna pass out on this keyboard.

TRON Legacy Review

When I first saw the teaser for this film my inner geek bounced around like a child about to go to DisneyLand, after seeing the film, the geek ain't gonna sleep for a while.

The film starts in 2D in the real world, over the 2D film opener sequence Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) disappears leaving his son an orphan, fast forward to present day and Sam Flynn is a grown adult. Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner) speaks with Sam that Kevin paged him from a number no longer in service, he goes to the arcade Kevin once ran, upon finding the office Sam is zapped into The Grid, thus beginning the 3D part of the film which its entirety is the best part of the film, its got comedy, romance, action and drama all in a perfect balance. I wanna break it down for ya here:

DECADENT EYE CANDY
The visuals for The Grid world are sexy alone without the 3D filming, but with the 3D filming the depth is revealed, where most movies filmed in 3D tent to abuse the privilege of filming with 3D cameras with cliches (alla final destination) TRON Legacy doesn't! instead the guys use 3D filming to bring out the depth of the environment and especially with the action sequences. using 3D ONLY when on the grid was a wise move.

THE PERFECT CAST
The acting is Top Notch especialy from Jeff Bridges who plays both hero and villain with some serious panache. His reprisal of Kevin Flynn is dead on, you could not ask for a better performance! unfortunatly Bruce Boxleitner who reprises his roll of Alan Bradley doesn't make a lot of appearances in this film. Garrett Hedlund who plays Sam Flynn does his roll well, I can't name anyone who I would have replace him in the film. Olivia Wilde does a great performance as the new female character Quorra.

EARGASMS
I got the soundtrack to the film a little after iTunes released it, Daft Punk's work on the music does the film great justice, there work on the synthesizers and orchestra is a real treat to the ears both on screen and off. Sound editing is dead on, not oscar worthy mind you but still wonderful.

WRITTEN TRUE
The writing is the biggest part that blew me away, the visuals coming in a close 2nd. It did not once deter from the first TRON film, every second keeping true to the original. They were able to keep the personality traits of the characters true to the classic, one word: Flawless.

This is a MUST SEE IN 3D, do not see it in 2D theater.

Whose Next?

First off, in regards to my worst case scenario for Lebron James in my last post, I'm glad i was way off.

NFL

ever since the half way point this season it seems that after a loss in an important game one team or another gives the head coach the boot.

  • Wade Phillips out from Dallas.
  • Brad Childress out from Minnesota
  • the WHOLE Coaching staff out of Buffalo
  • Josh McDaniels out of Denver.
which begs the question; whose next?

The anarchist in me says it's Mike Singletary from San Fran, but after looking over the numbers I doubt that will happen. San fran has been up and down since they got a win in week 6 and can look to improve with the remaining schedule, This week they host the Seattle Seahawks which has been up and down from the start of the season. neither of these teams are playoff bound for sure, but at this point San Francisco can still salvage and prevent a loosing season and Singletary can keep his gig going into 2011.

A Little Thing Called "Karma"

All sports in this entry.

LeBron and Cleveland

Cav's fans are screwing there own team over with there cold blooded hatred (which they are only capable of) over LeBron, it may even put him into an ICU or a Body bag, yes I really do see that happening. I have never seen so much hatred over an individual athlete since Michael Vick was charged with dog fighting.

I'm not making this up, I honestly see this happening and it wouldn't surprise me if it came true. It only takes one guy to end the season if not the life of another individual, One sly individual to sneak a concealable weapon in and attack.

I will be watching this game closely, and for the cities sake the scenario mentioned above better not happen.

Best case scenario is a game where Cav's fans boo LeBron through out the game, but it will not matter how loud they are. by focusing on there "enemy" they take all atention off there abandoning there team to envoke hate on a single individual.

I have Miami winning on the road by 10 points.

TCU to Big East

what ever the reason may be for TCU to go to a far away conference be it money, pride, the desire to shut everyone up in a championship game.

cause at the end of the day, none of it matters.

The school can get all the money it wants from the games, the players won't get a penny of it no matter how hard they play, There throwing, catching, running, and kicking the ball, as well as dodging other kids as big if not bigger than themselves at the cots of possible personal injury. Ever since I started following off field news all i ever got out of the BCS/playoff debate was drama, and honestly it pisses me off to the point of not caring about the bowl games, now I see it as just another game in the season.

I'm a Utah Utes fan and proud of it, TCU can do what ever they please, but at the end of the day the only thing that matters to me as a fan of the sport is the game and the people who play the game.

That is all world, Stay sane.

My Sisters Toffee

Winter is here so that means turkey, turkey coma, hot scalding cocoa and my moms divine toffee.
However that alone has proven to be problematic, a little over a year ago we replaced our oven, the old one had an electric coil stove top, our new one is a glass top and doesn't produce enough heat needed to make it, thank god for neighbors since we will be allowed to use someones kitchen to make it.

the genius behind the recipe is my sister Rian. she contributed it to a LDS ward cookbook

WORLDS MOST DANGEROUS
TOFFEE
  • 1 lb. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • ½ c. water
  • Hershey's candy bars
  • Almonds
  • Candy thermometer

Finley chop almonds and set aside, Grate the Hersey's bars and set aside. On a jelly-roll pan, Spread an even layer of grated chocolate, leaving most of it for later. In a large heavy pot combine butter, sugar, vanilla and water. bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Continue to boil and stir until the candy thermometer reaches the hard crack stage (300ºF - 310ºF). Immediately pour over on the jelly-roll pan. Gently spread to edges with spatula. sprinkle with the rest of the chocolate. Make it a thick layer. Top with as much almonds as you want. Allow to cool completely. Break into bite-size pieces and enjoy. Store in airtight container at room temperature.

Note that the chocolate and almonds are purely optional, you can also top it with just chocolate or white chocolate. Feel free to top the toffee with whatever you wish.

    Week 11 Pics

Lots of games going on in the morning, so lets get through the pics

    Buffalo Bills @ Cincinnati Bengals
I picked the bills to save them selves from total embarrassment last week and they did, there facing another bad team in the Bengals so they might make it two...
    >Bills 27 - Bengals 20

    Detroit Lions @ Dallas Cowboys
Dallas finally had a good game right after the coaching change, although they are beyond wildcard contention they can use this season to evaluate there boy.
    Lions 10 - Cowboys 30<

    Washington Redskins @ Tennessee Titans
The skins really could use a W after that savage beat-down against Philly, the Titans should vent there frustration here.
    >Redskins 22 - Titans 17

Arizona Cardinals @ Kansas City Chiefs
Stats show KC with the handy advantage, I have no reason to disagree.
    Cardinals 12 - Chiefs 20

Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers
some of the stats show them at a tie, but the actual results say otherwise. Minnesota should seriously consider benching Favre.
    Vikings 6 - Packers 13<

Houston Texans @ New York Jets
In previous NFL seasons you usually have a team that's guaranteed to go to the playoffs at this point, not this season, the jets just one of many teams who are contenders in there division.
    Texans 9 - NY Jets 23<

    Oakland Raiders @ Pittsburgh Steelers
    UPSET ALERT!
these two have only faced each other twice since 01, this game makes it 3.
in all three of there meetings including this Sunday, Oakland was the underdog...
    and won!
    >Raiders 20 - Steelers 14

    Baltimore Ravens @ Carolina Panthers
Carolina is suffering on all fronts, there not gonna last in this outing.
    >Ravens 30+ - Panthers 9

    Cleveland Browns @ Jacksonville Jaguars
the Jags have won more games at there home field than the browns have, a sad stat.
    Browns 7 - Jaguars 21<

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ San Fransisco 49ers
San Fran is the slim favorite here, a loss for the 49ers here would end there season out right.
    >Bucks 21 - 49ers 9

Seattle Seahawks @ New Orleans Saints
    LEAD PIPE LOCK
Lot of analysts favor my Saints in this one, i have no reason to doubt em
    Seahawks 14 - Saints 28<<<

Atlanta Falcons @ St. Louis Rams
Falcons among the many 1st place teams in the NFL, game is a sure W for em.
    >Falcons 27 - Rams 6

Indianapolis Colts @ New England Patriots
OK, hear me out on this one, I have a theory that Bill Belichick's hoodies are magical - HEAR ME OUT!
I thought it up back in 08 when the pats finished the regular season 11-5, the theory is:
Belichick wearing a hoodie = more likely to win.
Belichick NOT wearing a hoodie = Less likely to win.
so with that in mind I present two outcomes depending on what Billy wears:
    w/ hoodie; Colts 13 - Patriots 18<
    w/o hoodie; >Colts 17 - Patriots 16

New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles
Vick is probably still on an adrenalin high after the savage beatdown against the skins.
    NY Giants 14 - Eagles 24<

there you have it, my monday night pick will be before kickoff monday on my twitter feed.

    later.

    Insomnia, My best friend

for a few years I had to rely on sleep aids like melatonin to get some sleep, for the last year I appear to be immune to natural sleep aids, Not even the OTC drug Altril did anything and I took that last night, didn't sleep since taking it.
It is quite possible that I have developed an immunity to natural sleep aids...

    POLITICS

america is not paying any attention to the issues as far as politics, there is now a majority in the house that favors the Neo Conservatives while the senate has a now slim democratic majority.

    forecast: more national debt

I would say that the neo-con's will realize what there doing after they succeed in half there agenda but my dad everyday reminds me just how stubborn neo-cons are (he IS one of them after all).
it also doesn't help that President Obama lost his spine after taking office, now he is left with only one testicle from what I am seeing on TV; willing to compromise with a partisan group that doesn't negotiate... one thing that does help some is the tea party cons who are now in the house and senate is that they speak before they think, they say they have a plan when they haven't made a draft or a single legislative piece.

but boner man boener... if you saw him last tuesday night... hands down THE Best acting from a politician I have ever seen. ^_^

    SPORTS

Chris Berman has his 2 minuet drill, this is mine

    HERES THE BACON!

Week 9 begins the frigid portion of the regular season in the NFL, and as we all know autumn is also known as fall, cause leaves fall from trees, this year its more than just leaves falling:
    Snow
    Rain
    Post-season hopes
    Cowboys ticket sales (too soon?)
    and most importantly the temperature.

people hate the cold, even players (who aren't with green bay), the ball gets stiff and the moisture makes the ball slick.... I just realized a wrote a dirty joke there.
sexual cliché's aside, you know what I mean, the cold weather will effect gameplay the rest of the season, cold weather also brings moisture which kills cleat to turf traction, add that with the new hard tackle rules and you got yourself a possible bloodbath.

    ---Bears @ Bills---
the windy city has an easy W in there sights.
    >Bears 56
    - Bills 9

    ---Bucks @ Falcons---
both teams are at 5-2, I'm predicting a close one.
    - Bucks 7
    >Falcons 10

    ---Pats @ Browns---
I question the browns roster and eternal legitimacy.
    >Pats 30
    - Browns 3

    ---Jets @ Lions---
!!!UPSET ALERT!!! I'm calling for a surprise turnaround by detroit
    - Jets 17
    >Lions 20

    ---Saints @ Panthers---
the panthers lost to my saints last time, they will lose again.
    >Saints 20
    - Panthers 14

    ---Cards @ Vikings---
the ageless one still has ammo in the magazine
    - Cards 14
    >Vikings 17

    ---Dolphins @ Ravens---
Miami has an addiction to the wildcat formation that will doom them one day
    - Dolphins 10
    >Ravens 14

    LEAD PIPE LOCK
    ---Chargers @ Texans---
I have a friend whose a chargers fan, his parents are getting divorced, this one is for him.
    >Chargers 17
    - Texans 10

    ---Giants @ Seahawks---
I have Seattle taking this at home in OT
    - Giants 13
    >Seahawks 19

    ---Chiefs @ Raiders---
Raiders have surprised us this season, expect another!
    - Chiefs 17
    >Raiders 30

    ---Colts @ Eagles---
Colts are doing well, I may have em as a superbowl pic in another post later on
    >Colts 33
    - Eagles 27

    ---Cowboys @ Packers---
    yeah...
    - Cowboys 0
    >Packers 50+

    ---Steelers @ Bengals---
The steel curtain is showing some rips and tears
    - Steelers 13
    > Bengals 20

now to see how many I get right

also I got my eyes on 3 TCU vs. 5 Utah tomorrow

    ---TCU @ Utah---
there is a lot of buzz by fans and a hand full of media on this game and rightfully so, two top 5 BCS ranked teams from a non-BCS conference going head to head tomorrow at 3:30 pm ET (1:30 pm MT).
Sports analysts at ESPN are hating on utah for there Weak Defense without mentioning the defensive play of many teams that both Utah and TCU have gone up against, only a couple teams for each of them have gone toe to toe score wise, this is bound to be one of them.
I'll be grilling in the back yard while this is in play,
    - TCU 20
    >Utah 23

while that is being played I'm gonna try some new grilling tricks and share my experience in the next post.

    See Ya
